Strait Gold confirms gold anomalies prior to drilling at Culebrilla
July 23, 2007
Strait Gold Corp. is pleased to report results of a spring 2007 field exploration program at its Culebrilla Project in Peru.
A follow-up program of infill soil sampling was completed over the gold soil anomalies 'A', 'B' and 'E' previously identified (January 22, 2007, news release). A total of 265 soil samples were collected on 50-metre spaced lines at 25-metre spaced stations. Samples range in value from below detection (<0.001 ppb gold) to 1005 ppb gold, with 128 samples classified as anomalous (>19 ppb gold) and 48 samples classified as highly anomalous (>63 ppb gold).
These results confirm the anomalous to highly anomalous gold-soil values in anomaly 'A' and 'B', further delineating the outline of these anomalies. Anomaly 'E' appears to be a small isolated anomaly. A map showing the results of this infill soil sampling together with 2006's soil survey is available on the Company's website and can be viewed at http://www.straitgold.com/soil_sample_results_2007.pdf.
The Company is preparing a 2,000-metre diamond drill program at Culebrilla
to begin in August 2007. It has identified targets for 18 initial drill
holes on three zones. These targets were identified based on surface sampling
and ground geophysics and are all areas of previous artisinal mining.
Follow-up sampling from the El Plano silver-lead showing approximately
one kilometre along strike and northeast of the Caballo zone, returned
significant assays including: 42 g/t silver, 0.8% lead and 1% manganese
over 2.7 metres; 46 g/t silver, 1.9% lead and >5% manganese over 2.7
metres; and 37 g/t silver, 1.1% lead and 1.5% manganese over 1.5 metres.
These values represent chip samples collected across the strike of the
vein.
The main vein at El Plano consists of narrow silver-lead-manganese veinlets within a bleached alteration envelope generally 1-2 m wide. Recent sampling suggests the vein is continuously mineralized for at least 45 metres of strike length. Other smaller silver-lead-manganese veins of similar type and orientation occur in the area and returned values of up to 68 g/t silver and >5% manganese with anomalous gold and copper.
A total of 45 rock samples were also collected from bedrock sources during follow-up prospecting of geochemical anomalies identified during the 2006 regional exploration program. Rusty weathered intermediate tuff with up to 20% pyrite outcropping up stream from both the Coyllor River and Quebrada Chinhuk geochemical anomalies was encountered, but no significant values were returned from assayed rock samples. Strongly clay altered felsic tuff encountered up stream from the Huacanhuasi gold geochemical anomaly returned weakly anomalous gold values.
Ryan Weston, M.Sc., P.Geo., is the Qualified Person for the purpose of this news release and is in charge of the 2007 exploration program at Culebrilla. Strait Gold carries out a program of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) that includes insertion of blanks, standards and duplicates into the sample stream to verify results prior to dissemination. Sample preparation and analysis was carried out at ALS Chemex facilities in Lima, Peru, an ISO 9001:2000 registered laboratory. Samples were analyzed for gold by fire assay followed by atomic absorption spectroscopic (AAS) finish and by gravimetric finish for samples exceeding the upper limit of analysis (over limit). Silver, copper, lead and zinc, together with 30 other elements, were assayed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) following aqua regia dissolution. Over-limit silver (>100 ppm), and lead (>10,000 ppm) samples were re-assayed by AAS.
About Strait Gold Corporation:
Strait Gold Corporation is a Canadian mineral exploration company active in Peru. It holds an option to earn a 100% interest in the 68-sq.-km Culebrilla Property located in Ancash Department, the same Peruvian jurisdiction that hosts the Pierina gold mine (Barrick Corporation), the Antamina base metals mine (BHP Billiton, TeckCominco, Xstrata Minerals and Mitsubishi) and numerous other, smaller mining operations. Culebrilla lies between Pierina to the south and Lagunas Norte, another Barrick gold mine, to the north.
